Fax.com of J2 Global Communications supports UniFax, an online fax service provider. They provide fax services suitable for individuals as well as those that need broadcasting services or web fax integration, developer tools or APIs.
Although this service offers a variety of useful and flexible fax services, they place behind some of the other because their basic plan supports only 100 send/receives per month.
Fax.com supports a variety of services; however, for the purpose of this review we primarily focused on the Internet & Email Faxing for Users small to medium business service. This service supports inbound and outbound faxes and the ability to send multiple documents in one fax or to multiple recipients. It also supports the ability to forward faxes.
Inbound faxes can be received as either a PDF or TIF Image file and incoming faxes retry up to five times if the line is busy. However, this service cannot add signatures to a fax and only supports 100 send/receive combined faxes with its basic service before they start charging extra.
Sending a fax through Fax.com is as simple as selecting the "Send a Fax" icon at the top of the screen and entering the requested information. For those that need special services they offer free Java and .NET/COM SDKs and a universal user's guide.
Fax.com has good customer service with email, fax and telephone support as well as a physical address for mailings. They responded to our email within five hours and answered all of our questions. Even though they responded to all our questions professionally, they could speed up their response time by adding a live chat service.
The monthly price for this service is comparable at $9.95/month with a $9.95 setup fee. However, this service fails to keep up with the competition by only supporting a total of 100 send/receives per month before it starts charging 10 cents for each additional fax.
This service, through Unifax provides many useful and easy to use features. However, the basic service is limited since other services such as MyFax offer as many as 100 sends and 200 receives per month for about the same price. Nevertheless, if you need special services including an XML Post option, broadcasting or free SDK downloads this may be a service worth investigating.
