SmartFax is an online fax service that focuses their business towards people that only need the ability to receive faxes. This may be a good fit for a company that prefers not to use a fax machine however, has clients that require a fax option.
Feature Set:
SmartFax, offers few features. With this service, you can only receive faxes. It does not provide the ability to create and send faxes. The only send capability it has is the ability to forward a received fax.
Ease of Use:
The way that this service works is – someone sends you a fax and then SmartFax sends you an email notification when a fax arrives to the service directed to you. Once you receive that email, you are required to login to their server to view and/or print it. This service does not actually send the fax to your email like some of the other services that we reviewed.
Customer Service:
This service provides good customer service. We contacted the company through their live chat service and the operator responded to all of our questions and did not push the hard sell. This service also provides toll free telephone and email support; However, this service does not offer a free trial.
Price/Extra Costs:
This service requires a $10.00 setup fee and charges $6.95/month. If you elect to have a toll-free number assigned, instead of a local number, then received faxes cost 4.9 cents/minute. If you forward a received fax to another address, the price is 7.5 cents/minute.
Summary:
Generally, this service is for someone that only plans to receive a few faxes per month and prefers not to send faxes at all.
